What is SSI?

SSI is Supplemental Security Income. It's often confused with SSDI, but SSI is essentially a welfare program for the disabled. You don't have to pay into the system to get it. It’s not like SSDI in that way. Iff you're disabled and you haven't had enough time to work or enough work credits to get SSDI, you will fall back on the SSI system. In SSI their are income and assets requirements to change from year to year, but they're two very different systems.
