How long do I have to wait after becoming disabled before I can file for Social Security disability benefits?

My advice for somebody who has become disabled and wants to file is file immediately. What constitutes disability differs from case to case so if you think you can't go back to your old job or any other job in the national economy that you can do, even jobs as simple as a gate guard, a gate checker or somebody who sells tickets at a movie theater. If you physically and mentally can't do that kind of work, that’s simple, sedentary work that's subject to change in positions. If you can't do that for physical or mental reasons, then you should be filing for Social Security disability.
