If you’re successful on your claim, you don’t have to go through reconsideration. But if they turn you down, you’re going to have to go through reconsideration and file your request. Social Security gets another shot to take a look at your case to see if you’re eligible. Now, if you’re accepted early on, you’re one of the lucky ones and you don’t have to go through reconsideration.
