Must I wait a year after being disabled before receiving Social Security disability benefits?

You don't have to wait a year after filing your Social Security disability claim to get your benefits, but part of the law is that you have to be determined to be unable to work for at least 12 months to get your benefits. There's a 12 month requirement, but you either have to be out of work for 12 months or anticipated to be, or you're going to be out of work for 12 months to be eligible for the benefits.
