I applied for disability benefits many months ago and did not receive an answer. When do they notify me of the decision?

Typically, when you file your Social Security disability claim, you'll be notified of the decision within 90 days. If the case is pending past that point in time and you filed your request for reconsideration, you may be waiting another 90 days to get a determination. If it's any longer than this, you need to go down to the Social Security Administration and ask somebody to check what the status of the claim is so they can tell you. Oftentimes, we have clients that have been denied benefits at the reconsideration level, but somehow never got their denial of benefits. They’ve been denied and they're waiting and haven't been notified. But Social Security will say they have been so you just don't want to be there. You want to make sure that your claim is properly filed and follow up on it every 60 to 90 days.
