Do I have to have an attorney to file for Social Security disability benefits?

You might not have to have an attorney to file for Social Security disability benefits. But it's best to talk to one before you do so you'll know what Social Security is looking for and how to approach your case. We encourage our clients to file on their own. They don't need us until they're turned down, but it's important if they are turned down. If you are turned down at the reconsideration stage, you get in to hiring an attorney as quickly as possible. At least talk to one and see what kind of case you have and see whether or not they might want to take it.
