If I have earnings after I apply for SSDI or SSI, should I report them?
Yes. Another reason people are denied benefits and have to wait for a hearing is because earnings show up on their record. This will almost always guarantee a long wait for a hearing. So, report all income to SSA and explain it. Do this even if iit is Workers’ Compensation Benefits, Unemployment benefits, Long term and Short term disability benefits. Do not only report the amount, but the source of the benefits and the nature of them, what they were for. This will have to be clarified at some point and if you do it during the pre-hearing process, you may avoid a long, unnecessary wait for a Social Security Disability Hearing.
